The Joshua Tree N.P. covers more then 870 square miles north of I-10 and east of Desert Hot Springs. This California desert country contains striking granite formations and mountain ranges rising from flat valleys about 1,000 feet above sea level to elevations of nearly 6,000 feet. The many spectacular desert plants include Joshua trees, cactuses, ocotillos, smoke trees, palo verdes, pinon pines, Mojave yuccas and a fine array of spring wildflowers.
The desert also supports
a wide variety of wildlife, including many resident and migratory birds.
The largest animal is the desert bighorn.
Joshua Tree
N.P.provides a space for finding freedom from everyday routines, space for self-discovery,
and a refuge for human spirit. |
