* WATCHTOWER, at Desert View, is 25 mi. e. of Grand Canyon Village. Built in1932 as a rest stop for Grand Canyon visitors, the tower is a recreation of prehistoric towers found throughout the southwest. From the brink of the canyon wall, the tower commands views of the river, the canyon, the Painted Desert and Kaibab National Forest; telescopes extend the view far into the Navajo Reservation.
