Vier Meilen südlich von Taos an der SR 68 findet man eine der schönsten spanisch-kolonialen Kirchen:
SAN FRANCISCO DE ASIS CHURCH
Das Dorf Ranchos de Taos entstand um 1716. Die Kirche wurde 1815 erbaut, festungsgleich mit mehr als 1 m dicken Adobe-Wänden und enormen Stützpfeilern. Viele der alten Adobe-Häuser am Ranchos Plaza sind jetzt Gallerien, Shops oder Restaurants.
Taos selbst ist eine Künstler- und Touristenstadt. In unzähligen Gallerien und Geschäften werden Werke von Künstlern der Region angeboten.2.5 Meilen nördlich von Taos Plaza liegt das
Taos Pueblo  TUA-TAH  "Our Village".

Taos Pueblo is 2,5 mi. north of Taos Plaza. Its multi-story architecture often astounds visitors; especially when the late afternoon sun turns the adobe structures a beautiful golden hue. Four hundred years ago, these golden-brown buildings lured Spanish soldiers into thinking they had discovered one of the so called "lost cities of gold".
The Taos Pueblo is just one of the many Indian communities struggling for economic self sufficiency. Tribal members still speak their native language - Tiwa and in many respects conduct their lives as they did many generations ago.
